Mission
A fledgling rescue, we will work with local shelters and animal agencies to help establish a resource network for homeless animals. Named for a homeless injured dog rescued from City of Thunder Bay Animal Services the day she was to be euthanized, in August 2005, New Hope Rescue (NHR) is committed to providing quality care for rescued animals, dogs in particular, and for adopting them into permanent loving homes.
Vision
Thunder Bay will be a humane and caring community where responsible pet owners abound and all homeless animals may find new hope.
The Purpose of New Hope Rescue
NHR is dedicated to making every effort to ensure that dogs that are adoptable* or treatable** are not put down.
We will provide a safe environment, daily care and funding for necessary medical treatment, including without exception, spay and neuter, and seek permanent responsible homes for our foster dogs.
We consider adoptable* dogs to be those that show no sign of a behavioral or temperamental defect that could pose a health or safety risk to the public and have shown no sign of disease, injury, or congenital or hereditary condition that adversely affects the health of the dog. Adoptable does not mean perfect. Adoptable dogs may be old, deaf, blind, disfigured or disabled.
Treatable** animals are any dogs that are not adoptable but that could become adoptable with reasonable efforts. Sick, injured, traumatized, infant or unsocialized dogs require appropriate medical treatment, behavior modification and/or foster care to transform them into healthy animals ready for placement.
Values
NHR will draw on all available resources to provide compassionate loving care to homeless dogs in our rescue. NHR shall address not only basic needs, but shall provide necessary medical services which shall minimally include spay or neuter, in order to promote a decrease in the number of homeless animals.
